Make Room For God

Image
2 Kings 4 The following paragraph is a paraphrase of the events that took place in 2 Kings 4. Elisha the prophet  passed Shunem a few times. And he always lodged with the Shunemite woman and her family. She was glad to him over all the time. So she prepared and built a room for him, with a bed, lamp, table and chair. It was her way of blessing him and honouring him as the man of God. Elisha asked  what he could do for her because of her generosity to which his servant Gehazi responded by saying that she was childless. Through the Spirit of God he told her that in a year's time she would bear a son.  When he was older, he was out in the fields with his dad. His head hurt and the servant carried him to his mother. He sat on her lap until he passed at noon. His mother saddled up her donkey and rushed of to see Elisha. Upon their return, Elisha had the boy laid on his bed as he put his body on the boy's and face to face with the boy, he began to pray. The boy's

The Call Of Every Christian

"And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” " - Matthew 28 vs 19-20  I've heard one too many Christians say that the great commission is meant for leaders and pastors, evangelists and missionaries. Some respond by saying that Jesus gave the commission to the disciples who were the first leaders of the church and therefore that's how's it's supposed to be - leaders accomplishing the great commission. They couldn't be farther from the truth. But the Bible reminds that,  "In those days Peter stood up among the brothers (the company of persons was in all about 120)..."  -Acts 1 vs 15. There were more than 120 people in the upper room. Mary the mother o

Bloom where you are planted

Image
“For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: He hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him” [Isaiah 53:2]. The end of it all is not milk or honey but God Himself. Many people believe they would be happier if only they were married, had a better wife, more money, more clothes, more popularity and more of anything you can name. They also believe their tomorrow will be better than their today and fail to live in the here and now, trusting and thanking Him for today. They are never satisfied that God has them right where He wants them to be and that is why year after year, they have themes of something better than last year yet if they were to look back, they will see their last year’s theme was not accomplished. Yet they keep on having and making new ones. It is all vanity.  Christians need to learn to bloom where they are planted. Isaiah 53:2 talks about Christ the Messiah and

Here's My Story

Image
Hello Friends I thought maybe today you could get to know me a little better and so, I'm sharing my story with you. As you all know my name's Shane but actually that's my second name by which everyone calls me. My first name's Samuel. And today you're going to get to know how I got that name and how it has become my testimony in sharing the power of God in my own life and in ministry through the years. I was born prematurely on 26th February 1986, I was actually supposed to be born in late April of that year. The day after I was born, my mum walks into the room where I had been placed in an incubator. The nurses had refused for her to see me and she was told she had to wait for the doctor.   When she eventually was told what the real issue was, she walked out the door and into corridor and prayed this prayer:  "Lord if you give me back my child I will give him back to you." She walked back in and the medical staff could not believe what

Joy In Suffering

Image
Acts 9 vs 15 - 16, " “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.” God says of Paul, "For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name."   Isn't that our calling too ? That we suffer for his namesake. For western thought has distorted our view of Christianity that we should only be 'blessed' and nothing else. It teaches that suffering is a curse and the only way out is to be 'blessed'. Now, am not against being blessed, I'm all for it as you would read in my previous posts on the blog. What I am saying is that suffering is and should be a part of our Christian walk, for suffering must produce godly character in us. Hebrews 12 vs 2 states very clearly, " who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the th

Understanding what Paul meant by "I, not the Lord"?

Image
What did Paul mean when he wrote, “And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord. Let not the wife depart from her husband” [1 Corinthians 7:10, KJV]? And what did he mean when he also wrote, “But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away”, a couple of verses later [1 Corinthians 7:12, KJV]? How then can we be sure about other “controversial” issues that Paul addressed? Was it him speaking or was it the Lord? It is without doubt that one of the most misunderstood inspired writers of the word of God is Paul the apostle. You either love him or hate him; understand him or miss him. I used to think he was prideful and did not like him because he seemed highly opinionated to even add his own thoughts to the word. But was I right? Let me quickly say I was wrong about him.  Paul is largely misunderstood and this misunderstanding did not start in the twenty-first century

The Purpose Of Pentecost

Image
Hi everyone, I know it's a bit late for this post as we have already celebrated Pentecost yesterday, but we should be mindful that although Pentecost was a one time kairos moment in our history, it's effects are eternal and it should be a part of our daily experience as we choose to live holy lives drawing others to Christ. As we  do that I want to focus on the purpose of Pentecost as we see in Acts 2. The Bible reminds us they were all together in one place when the Holy Spirit breathed upon them. When the Spirit came that day, he enabled Peter and the others to speak in different languages that those who listened might be saved. Three thousand people were saved that day.  Today, a particular amount of Christians expect to receive the Spirit of God in order to speak in 'tongues'. (The purpose of today's article is not to deliberate on the matter of speaking tongues, but rather to articulate the meaning of Pentesost as a whole). The Spirit enabled them t
