Seeking Serenity - Book Review: Courtesy Of Struik Christian Media

This devotional is quite unique in it's make-up. Trevor Hudson uses the Serenity Prayer as the backdrop for this particular devotional.

Quite amazingly, to be honest, I knew only the first four lines of this prayer as it brings back many memories(It was stuck on my bedroom wall and iI would say this prayer before my matric exams). Shockingly, most people either only heard of the prayer or only knew the first four lines. ( I did check by undertaking a small survey in my neighbourhood). In that light I'm grateful for Trevor Hudson along with SCM(The publisher), for putting this devotional out there. 

The author uses this prayer along with scripture and in reading you find he speaks from much experience. By using this prayer he tackles issues that most people face almost everyday. He talks about physical issues concerning health as well as mental issues which could lead to depression. He talks about finances and relationships too which are all important.


This devotional will serve both young and old alike and would be perfect for family devotions. Teaching children the Serenity Prayer would be an absolute must.

If you're looking for something special to add to your personal and/or family time in God's presence, the Serenity prayer would be that perfect fit.

I recommend that even if you don't like reading to get a copy of this book. It's divided into 365 days of the year and is short, sweet and precisely to the point. Trevor Hudson has accomplished a great task in this beautifully crafted devotional.

The following is the Serenity Prayer in full:

God, grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change, 
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace,
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, 
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to his will-
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with him forever.

Book Review: Beyond Blessed - Courtesy Of Struik Christian Media

A brave book indeed! My initial thought when I picked this book up was that it was going to be just like every other 'Christian' book out there on finances.  But to my surprise, that whilst the central theme is finance, the author talks more about other aspects surrounding finance which leads up to good financial habits. He addresses the issues on carrying too much debt and even budgeting.  It's a great all rounder, that covers all basic necessities of the financial arena from a thorough Biblical perspective. There is a companion book that was written before this one called ' The Blessed Life.' I managed to get a copy of it at a book sale, but haven't had the opportunity of reading it yet. But will get around to it soon, hopefully.  I would suggest getting a copy of this book. In fact every family should have a copy of it.
