Book Review: Decieved No More - Courtesy Of Struik Christian Media

Doreen Virtue used to be one of the biggest names in the New Age movement. She proved to be a force to be reckoned with. And in this book, 'Deceived No More', shows her remarkable journey to Christian conversion.

This book is like a semi autobiography in which she speaks about her life, sharing personal experiences but not in too much detail. In it she mentions the belief system she was stuck in for almost her entire life leading up to her conversion.

A few things in this book caught my attention. One of those is how New Age practices and lingo has crept into the church probably without anyone even recognizing its actually not christian at all, simply because it sounds so 'Christian-like.' For me personally, it has opened my eyes to see the destruction it's causing so many Christians.

She is quite solid in her writing and it shows how much she has grown spiritually. She accomplishes this task by showing the kind of Bible teachers she encounters through their writings and online teachings. Just to mention a few of them such as Dr. John MacArthur, the late R.C. Sproul and my personal favourite Paul Washer.  

Doreen describes her life in the Christian Science Church that left her with no viable answers that she sought for the issues of life. She did find the answers she needed, in the Bible.

It's amazing to see how someone like Doreen Virtue came out from the lifestyle that she had built for herself over the years. It was a luxurious lifestyle with lots of money making and five star hotels, traveling the world and the best fashion could buy. But on the inside it was complete deception as she openly admits to deceiving others in her workshps and the talks she gave. Its gives us hope, for those who think that life can't change. Doreen shows a different path with the Lord she met and found forgiveness.

It's a beautiful book and it's been quite a read for me as an eye opener indeed. I recommend this book for pastors, leaders and for those who want to enrich themselves with knowledge that shows the deception of the enemy and how easily Christians can get caught up with the New Age movement.

Book Review: Beyond Blessed - Courtesy Of Struik Christian Media

A brave book indeed! My initial thought when I picked this book up was that it was going to be just like every other 'Christian' book out there on finances.  But to my surprise, that whilst the central theme is finance, the author talks more about other aspects surrounding finance which leads up to good financial habits. He addresses the issues on carrying too much debt and even budgeting.  It's a great all rounder, that covers all basic necessities of the financial arena from a thorough Biblical perspective. There is a companion book that was written before this one called ' The Blessed Life.' I managed to get a copy of it at a book sale, but haven't had the opportunity of reading it yet. But will get around to it soon, hopefully.  I would suggest getting a copy of this book. In fact every family should have a copy of it.
