Thank You Lord
"I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation." Psalm 118 vs 21(ESV)
We all have much to be grateful for but how often have we said those very words, "Thank you, Lord?" Probably not very often and even if we did it would have become a famous cliche by now. It's just two small words that may not mean much because we've become so accustomed to saying it all the time. But the expression of those words must go far beyond what we say and how we say it.
Showing gratitude isn't an outward appearance kind of thing but when it comes from deep within it is quite noticeable, especially when giving thanks to the Lord. It must come from deep within and naturally expressed on the outside.
Gratitude has everything to do with 'happiness' and 'joyfulness.' Let me explain it this way: Happiness is the outward expression of the Joy that is experienced within. (That's the way I understand it to be from personal experience). The only way to express the Joy within is to showcase it on the outside through Happiness.
Joy can only be experienced through gratitude. When we're thankful for something or to someone, Joy will always be felt. But feelings aren't enough. Gratitude will push for something practical to be done in order to show how thankful we are. For example, when we say 'thank you' to someone we generally couple it by saying 'I owe you.' That's being practical in showing our gratitude to someone.
The same attitude applies to God as well, but some people only focus on saying "Thank you" to the Lord and are satisfied. That is a very bitter and selfish way of showing gratitude, especially to our Lord Jesus. Joy experienced and Happiness expressed must be the driving force behind our doing things practically to show gratitude not only to people around us but also to our God who is most Holy and deserving of all our praises. Not unto us but unto Him be all Praise, Glory and eternal Honour always.
There are many verses in the scriptures that speak of thanking God and there are so many good songs out there that can make you dance in gratitude or sing your heart out with tears rolling down. But the point of it all is that we must always come back to the throne of God and sit (or stand) in amazement at His wondrous and glorious creative acts in the universe. He is completely Majestic and Sovereign.
So friends, the next time you feel the need to give thanks remember saying "Thank you" isn't enough. You should desire to show your gratitude in thank-filled ways. May we never cease to give thanks.
Go out there and showcase your Thankfulness.
Much Blessings,
Shane
