The Old Rugged Cross

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross (rugged cross)
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it some day for a crown

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true
It's shame and reproach gladly bear
Then he'll call me some day to my home far away
Where his glory forever I'll share

And I'll cherish the old rugged cross (rugged cross)
Till my trophies at last I lay down
And I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it some day for a crown
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it some day for a crown

¹⁷"For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. ¹⁸Christ the Wisdom and Power of God For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." (1 Corinthians 1 vs 17 -18, ESV)

What is it about the cross that compels us to bend the knee and lay postrate before the Lord in worship?

Honestly, there's nothing better than being thankful for the cross because without it the wrath of God would have been displayed on us all and that is an incomprehensible thought!
But thank God for His merciful nature. It is pure and unblemished. It's a stark reminder of how one needs to bow before the cross in such humility in thankfulness.

As we draw this year to a close and look to the opening of a new one, many will be celebrating Christmas even our non believing brothers and sisters across the world. Many will know about Christmas but without the sacredness of what it means for us as believers.

We must understand that the purpose of Christmas is Easter and without Easter there would be no Christmas!

Christ's purpose of entering the world He created was to die upon a cross to pay the price for sin. Then He would rise from the grave to bring us life into eternity.

So, as you prepare to celebrate the birth of our beloved Saviour, thank Him for the cross this Christmas. For without the cross our faith would certainly be of no use!

Thank You For The Cross, Lord!
